Geographical Footprint

Since the early 1990s, the wind industry in Austria has been on the rise. By the end of 2023, more than 1400 turbines generated electricity for about 50% of Austrian households. By 2024, almost 4 GW of wind power is expected to be installed. Despite having no coastline, Austria has excellent wind conditions, especially in the flat areas of eastern Austria and the foothills of the Alps. As a result, the province of Lower Austria is home to the largest number of wind turbines, with almost 800 turbines installed as of the end of 2023. The Nordex Group has been active in the Austrian market since 1994, with the region making up part of the Central Region, which also includes Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. The regional headquarters are located in the capital Vienna, and the country’s first Service Point is located in Lower Austria in Hagenbrunn. Over the past 20 years, and in particular during its re-entry in 2021, Nordex has built up a solid presence in the market.

Our Product Portfolio

Nordex’s Delta4000 series offers a comprehensive portfolio of reliable wind turbines designed to meet a wide range of customer requirements. The N163 variant, available in either 5.X MW or 6.X MW, is the perfect solution for the wind energy needs of the Austrian market. It covers a wide range of performance modes and offers the flexibility to optimise a customer’s project-specific AEP investment criteria as well as the revenues in line with PPA structures and merchant price profiles. The N163/6.X comes with a design lifetime of 25 years, which can be extended to up to 35 years.

With the aim of achieving the best possible return on investment for our customers, the Nordex Group offers a wide range of solutions to ensure that our turbines are perfectly adapted to individual project requirements. With our proven Anti-Icing-System (AIS) for the N163/5.X, N163/6.X and N175/6.X turbine types, we ensure high performance in icing conditions and offer a product that is highly suitable for most alpine conditions. The Anti-Icing System consists of a sensor located on the nacelle and heating elements integrated into the rotor blade, which operate on the principle of electrical resistance heaters.
