MACINTYRE: LARGEST WIND FARM IN THE COUNTRY

The first Nordex turbine was installed in Australia way back in 1991, however, the Nordex Group has been present in the Australian market since the mid-2000s, opening its first dedicated office in the coastal city of Melbourne in 2017. Since then, our small cluster of dedicated #TeamNordex colleagues has continued to grow quickly, providing cost-effective technology that is compliant with local regulations and grid code requirements. The company currently has 528 MW in operation, with a further 923MW still under construction.

MacIntyre

Whilst still relatively new to the region, the Nordex Group was first introduced to the Australian market by Acciona Energy with whom we partnered on a number of projects. The most recent and significant collaboration with the company is on the MacIntyre Wind Farm, located 10 kilometers south of Karara in Queensland.

Whilst still currently under construction, the Nordex Group is in the process of providing a huge 162 N163/5.7 turbines for the staggering 923 MW project. Once completed in 2024/25, this project alone will produce enough power to run the equivalent of 700,000 households, whilst avoiding 3 million tons of CO2 and creating over 400 new jobs in the region. The project will be one of the largest wind farms in the southern hemisphere and the largest project in Australia.

Geographical Footprint

When people think of the landscape in Australia, they would be forgiven for their minds jumping straight to vast swathes of arid bushland. Whilst this is true to some degree, many of the projects we are involved in are located on more complex, forested terrain and typically experience lower wind speeds. Regardless of what this beautiful land may throw our way, at the Nordex Group, we are confident that we have a product to suit.

One prime example is the N163/5.X: an ideal product for the Australian market due to its combination of the Delta4000’s proven platform technology, mature reliability, and its grid compliance capabilities.
