The first Nordex turbine was installed in Australia back in 1991, and the Nordex Group has been present in the Australian market since 2017, opening its first dedicated office in the coastal city of Melbourne. Since then, our team of dedicated #TeamNordex colleagues has continued to grow, providing cost-effective technology that is compliant with local regulations and grid code requirements. We view Australia as one of our long-term core markets and are committed to continue our investment in the success of our customers and partners.

MacIntyre

The MacIntyre Wind Farm is set to feature 162 Nordex N163/5.7 turbines. Located 10 kilometres south of Karara in Queensland, the impressive 923 MW project will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 700,000 households, while avoiding 3 million tons of CO2 emissions and creating over 400 new jobs in the region. The project will be one of the largest wind farms in the southern hemisphere – and the largest in Australia. As of 2025, significant progress has been made: around half of the turbines have been commissioned with the northern substation operating at full capacity. The southern substation has now been energized, and commissioning is progressing as planned. We’ve successfully completed a key project milestone and are beginning the next stage of work.

Our Product Portfolio for Australia

When people outside of Australia picture its landscape, they often imagine vast swathes of arid bushland. While this is true to some extent, many of the projects we’re involved in are located in more complex, forested terrain – and typically with lower wind speeds. Wind projects in Australia can vary significantly, but we’re confident that our global product portfolio combined with tailored local solutions will meet a wide range of project requirements.

The McIntyre project was planned a few years ago and will benefit from the technology of our N163/5.X. Today, however, Australian customers can also take advantage of the flagship of our Delta4000 platform: the N175/6.X. With the175/6.X, we have built on our experience developing and testing the Delta4000 series and taken our flexibility approach to the next level.
