Founded in 1985, the Nordex Group is a pioneer of the wind industry and has been active in the German market since the late 1980s. The Group registered Nordex Germany GmbH in May 2021 in order to bring together its German client activities under a single company. All sales, project management and technical support service for Nordex Group wind turbines in the German market are handled by this company.
Hamburg’s first wind farm still features two units of the N27/150 model, the first series production wind turbine in the world, which have been producing green energy for 30 years now. With more than 7 GW of onshore wind power and a further 2,932 MW under construction, the Nordex Group has already made a major contribution to the energy transition. In-house production of nacelles and control cabinets in Rostock allow the Nordex Group to handle projects in the German market with increased local added value and short transport routes, making it particularly sustainable.
In Germany alone, the Nordex Group employs around 2,600 people from some 70 nations at its corporate headquarters and the Global Technical Academy, both located in Hamburg, and at its locations in Rostock and Oberhausen. With two additional regional offices in Paderborn and Leipzig, and 32 service points located throughout the country, Team Nordex ensures that our German clients benefit from quick response times and regional service competence. Approximately 400 highly-qualified technicians, specialists, and staff look after turbines with a combined output in excess of 5 GW in the region. In 2022, the Nordex Group was once again ranked first among wind turbine manufacturers in the German Wind Energy Association Service Survey.
The Delta4000 series
The Nordex Group has been a pioneer in the wind power industry since 1985 and has been present in the German market since the late 1980s. The German subsidiary offers all customer activities from sales to service from a single source.
The Nordex Group is firmly positioned in the German market. From a total of 2,405 MW installed in Germany in 2022, the company accounted for 769 MW, giving it a 32% market share and making it the market leader. This success can be mainly attributed to the Delta4000 series and the high demand for its models in the 133 to 175-meter diameter rotor range. With its Delta4000 platform, the company relies on proven technology, with performance-enhancing concept adjustments made to the basic design to fit the 4, 5 and 6-MW models.
In September 2022, the Nordex Group added yet another model to its Delta4000 series, the N175/6.X – its light-wind speed specialist. The N175/6.X leverages the proven technical concepts of the Delta4000 series while achieving between 7 to 14 percent more yield at low to medium-wind locations compared to its sister models, the N163/5.X and N163/6.X. This is due to its single-piece, newly-designed 85.7-metre rotor blade and its above-average capacity factor. The wind turbine’s larger rotor means that the additional yield is achieved particularly during times of lighter wind speeds with the turbine producing up to 22 percent more energy than its predecessors. With a rated output of up to 6.8 MW, the N175/6.X is the optimal solution for German wind conditions, making it the most suitable model for driving Germany’s targeted expansion of wind energy.

TRAINING ACADEMY
The Global Technical Academy (GTA) in Germany is the Nordex Group’s lead academy, providing GWO and technical training – both online and in person. To ensure uniform qualification for all technicians worldwide, the GTA has adopted a new training curriculum based on innovative training methods such as blended learning, which combines different types of training, i.e. classroom training, webinars, e-learning, practical learning, and self-study, to maximize flexible participation. The GTA follows a “train the trainer” approach in order to set the global standard and pass this on to the regional academies.
*Fun Fact*: In January 2024, the average score for GWO courses at the Global Technical Academy was 4.5 out of 5!
