The Nordex Group’s Nordic Region includes three primary markets: Sweden, Norway and Finland. The Nordics is one of the areas in Europe with highest share of renewables in electricity generation. The regions ambitious targets for renewable energy and especially with regards to wind power makes the Nordic Region a steadily growing market with a wind power energy production estimated to double by 2030. Nordex have been represented in the region since the establishment of the Swedish subsidiary 2006, the Finnish branch office followed in 2011. The Nordex Group has contracted over 1.6 GW in Sweden, 1.6 GW in Finland and 600 MW in Norway. This amounts to an annual energy production equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 2,3 million households in the Nordic region. With the goal to provide renewable energy to even more communities and companies the Nordex Group aims to continue to contribute to the growth within the Nordic markets by continuing being one of the main suppliers of wind turbines to the Nordic Region.

Norway: First kWh produced at ØyfjelletThe installation of the Øyfjellet is progressing fast forward with around 75% of the turbine installation works completed. The wind farm will consist of 72 N149/5.X TS105. Nordex Group is pleased to announce that the 26th of August the first kWH was produced at the wind farm.

PRESENCE OF THE NORDEX GROUP
The Swedish branch headquarters, which currently also serves the Norwegian market, can be found in Uppsala, a city in the south east of the country, and approximately 70 kilometers north of Stockholm. The second Nordic office is located in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. A total of 21 Service Points are distributed throughout the region, forming a Service network that delivers local expertise to maintain the smooth running of our systems. The group’s Service landscape provides flexible packages to ensure that there is one to suit the specific customer needs of any project.
The terrain of the Nordic Region is extremely varied. The landscape in made up of wide forest, lakes and moors, as well as the Scandinavian mountains and the majestic fjords of Norway. But the beautiful landscape and the northern position of the countries also present some challenges. The extremely low temperatures which occur in the winter months can have an impact on the construction and operation of wind farms. The Nordex Group product portfolio serves these complex and non-complex terrains with light to medium winds very well.
Tapping into Colder
HIGH PERFORMANCE IN ICING CONDITIONS
The standard climate version of a turbine can operate at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. The Nordex Cold Climate Package helps to additionally open up high-yield cold locations.
The Advanced Anti-icing System for the Delta4000 reduces output losses under active icing conditions by up to 80 per cent.
For the unique terrain, the N149/5.X from the Delta4000 platform is by far the most competitive turbine. This turbine covers a wide range of power modes in the 5 MW+ class and increases the competitiveness further still for light and medium wind sites, and due to its highly flexible suitability, is the optimal turbine for every location and climate in the region. The N149/5.X is also available as a cold climate version. Our proven Cold Climate Package enables the turbine to operate in temperatures down to -30C° / -22°F. One of the biggest challenges in the Nordic Region is the formation of ice on the rotor blades. This is caused by two weather conditions: low temperatures and high humidity.
Ice on the rotor blades can lead to downtimes, but the Nordex Group has a preventive solution: the Advanced Anti-icing System for the Delta4000 product series. This innovative system secures high turbine performance even in icing conditions. The product is comprised of a sensor positioned on the nacelle, as well as heating elements integrated in the rotor blade, which work on the principle of electrical resistance heaters. The heating elements are each composed of many individual segments and are positioned close to the surface, acting on the parts of the rotor surface that are particularly important for turbine performance. As soon as the sensors predict the danger of ice formation,
the control unit automatically switches on the heating elements to prevent icing of the rotor blades before it even occurs. This means the turbine does not need to be powered down and output losses are reduced by up to 80 per cent. The Advanced Anti-icing System for the Delta4000 banks on 9 years’ experience in the field and more than 500 MW of operating turbines with anti-icing technology. It has undergone field tests since 2014, and around 50 per cent of all orders within the region, are equipped with the Nordex Group Cold Climate Package.
