40 Years Nordex Group

FROM PIONEER TO INDUSTRY LEADER
FOR THE NORDEX GROUP, 2025 MARKS A SPECIAL MILESTONE: IT IS OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY!
These are 40 years in which technology has advanced by leaps and bounds; 40 years in which we have introduced groundbreaking turbines, often the world’s most powerful of the time; and 40 years in which our turbines have been honoured with gold medals.

It all started with a drawing on the wall

It was back in the early eighties, in Denmark, that Flemming Pedersen and his two sons, Carsten and Jens, had a vision: to develop products that could generate electricity in a cost-effective way without harming the environment. To put this idea into practice, they devised a wind turbine which they first sketched on a wall.
They built the first 65 kW turbine, installed it on the family property and got it up and running. This was the starting signal and, in 1985, Carsten and Jens Pedersen founded Nordex A/S in Give, laying the foundations for Nordex as a company. Today, 40 years later, a lot has changed. The Nordex Group has become one of the world’s leading Western manufacturers of wind turbines, successful around the globe and market leader in Europe. The technology and the industry have developed at an impressive pace. Electricity from wind power has become cost-competitive. A strong focus on innovation and Cost Of Energy (COE) has significantly reduced the cost per kilowatt hour, turning wind into the cheapest source of electricity in many regions.
One thing, however, has not changed in the four decades of the Nordex story: Developing and delivering clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world is still the shared mission and driver of today’s more than 10,900 Nordex Group employees, and the company’s valued partners and clients around the world.
That is why we would like to kick-off our 40th anniversary series this year by taking a moment to THANK all our customers, suppliers, colleagues and friends who have made Nordex’ journey of innovation and growth possible. And a special thank you to the Pedersen family for following a vision and believing in a technology that was once perceived by many as a utopian dream and today is recognized as playing a crucial role in protecting our planet from climate change, safeguarding it for generations to come!

ANNIVERSARY NEWSLETTER EDITION #2: THE FIRST NORDEX-BRANDED WIND TURBINE
18. February 2025
In 1986, just one year after the company was founded, the first Nordex-branded wind turbine started to produce energy. Developed by the visionary Pedersen brothers and Nordex’s inaugural employee, Knud Buhl Nielsen, the N27 marked the beginning of a groundbreaking journey towards sustainable energy production. Looking back on this milestone, Carsten Pedersen fondly recalls: “The first real Nordex turbine was the N27 with a rotor diameter of 27 meters, on a 30-meter tubular tower which we erected at our factory in 1986. At that time, it was one of the biggest turbines in the market and we thought that it was really big. We had to rent the tallest crane in Denmark to erect it.” […]

ANNIVERSARY NEWSLETTER EDITION #3: THINKING BIG – SIZE MATTERS”
27. March 2025
“Thinking big” and “size matters” were the driving forces in the wind industry in the ‘90s – and Nordex was no exception. The wind industry was starting to boom – and for the growing number of employees at Nordex, there was little time to take a breather: turbine manufacturing and technological development gained momentum, with capacity and dimensions increasing rapidly. In that decade, the company expanded to Germany, which today is home to the Nordex Group’s main offices. It established a new, larger production facility, which remains a key pillar of the Nordex Group’s global production footprint. With Nordex as a frontrunner, the industry entered the era of MW turbines. Just shortly after reaching that milestone, Nordex’ ambitious engineers developed a turbine that more than doubled their output. A turbine to look up to – as you will read below. […]

ANNIVERSARY NEWSLETTER EDITION #4: 600 MILLION TONS OF CO2E AVOIDED IN 40 YEARS
22. April 2025
Producing ‘green’ electricity and reducing CO2e emissions and thus their negative effect on the climate – was not only the founding vision of the Nordex Group but it has always been a key driver for our customers to invest in our turbines. As a result, even in the early days of the company, conversations with customers and colleagues focused not only on commercial topics like nominal power, yield, prices and costs, but also on data related to CO2etopics and reduced environmental impact. The focus began as early as the 1980s and 1990s. However, it was only in the first decade of this century that awareness of the need to reduce CO2e emissions spread beyond the industry and gained broader public attention. […]
