Anniversary Newsletter Edition #1: It all started with a drawing on the wall
For the Nordex Group, 2025 marks a special milestone: It is our 40th anniversary!
These are 40 years in which technology has advanced by leaps and bounds; 40 years in which we have introduced groundbreaking turbines, often the world’s most powerful of the time; and 40 years in which our turbines have been honoured with gold medals.
Today, on the International Day of Clean Energy, which highlights the importance of an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy transition for the benefit of people and the planet, the Nordex Group is excited to launch its anniversary newsletter ‘40 Years of the Nordex Group’, in which we look back upon our humble beginnings, key milestones and significant developments.
It was back in the early eighties, in Denmark, that Flemming Pedersen and his two sons, Carsten and Jens, had a vision: to develop products that could generate electricity in a cost-effective way without harming the environment. To put this idea into practice, they devised a wind turbine which they first sketched on a wall. They built the first 65 kW turbine, installed it on the family property and got it up and running. This was the starting signal and, in 1985, Carsten and Jens Pedersen founded Nordex A/S in Give, laying the foundations for Nordex as a company.
Today, 40 years later, a lot has changed. The Nordex Group has become one of the world’s leading Western manufacturers of wind turbines, successful around the globe and market leader in Europe. The technology and the industry have developed at an impressive pace. Electricity from wind power has become cost-competitive. A strong focus on innovation and Cost Of Energy (COE) has significantly reduced the cost per kilowatt hour, turning wind into the cheapest source of electricity in many regions.
One thing, however, has not changed in the four decades of the Nordex story: Developing and delivering clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world is still the shared mission and driver of today’s more than 10,900 Nordex Group employees, and the company’s valued partners and clients around the world.
That is why we would like to kick-off our 40th anniversary series this year by taking a moment to THANK all our customers, suppliers, colleagues and friends who have made Nordex’ journey of innovation and growth possible. And a special thank you to the Pedersen family for following a vision and believing in a technology that was once perceived by many as a utopian dream and today is recognized as playing a crucial role in protecting our planet from climate change, safeguarding it for generations to come!
“We wish to congratulate Nordex, and everyone at Nordex, on this 40-year anniversary. We are very happy that the company we founded in 1985 has developed into such a successful business.
Our father’s company produced oil tanks and boilers and, when the wind industry took off in Denmark in the late 1970s, we started producing towers for the market, because they were like a vertical oil tank.
After a few years of doing this, we thought, ‘If we can produce the tower, why don’t we produce a whole wind turbine?’ There were a lot of small wind turbine manufacturers in the market when we started, but only a few have survived, and Nordex is one of them.
We still hold Nordex close to our hearts and it has been, and still is, very exciting for us to see the company grow and develop over the years!”
Carsten and Jens Pedersen

The father, Flemming Pedersen, founded the Brande Beholder factory in Give, Denmark, in 1963. The company initially built boiler systems and later, towers for wind turbines. It eventually became the first Nordex factory, producing the initial N27/250 series turbine in 1987.

The first 65 kW wind turbine was installed in Thyregod, Denmark, on the family property.
