The Nordex Group publishes its Sustainability Report 2023

Back in 2021, the Nordex Group set itself ambitious goals in its Sustainability Strategy 2025: “Together for Change – Wind for a sustainable Future”. In our newly published eighth Sustainability Report, we summarize the Nordex Group’s progress and measures with regard to the Group’s key sustainability topics, as well as the risks and opportunities that we faced from a sustainability perspective in 2023. It includes the Group’s separate Consolidated Non-financial Report in compliance with statutory reporting requirements (CSR-RUG and EU Taxnonomy 2020/852). The report was prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards framework of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and was audited by the auditing specialists, PwC.
In the second year of its sustainability strategy 2025, the Nordex Group made further progress towards achieving its ambitious goals. Here are the highlights:

  • In 2023, the Nordex Group avoided approximately 69.1 million tonnes of CO2e globally with a total installed capacity of 51.4 GW.
  • The Nordex Group conducted two new life cycle analyses for its N149/5.X and N163/6.X turbines. The results of 4.9 and 4.7 grams of emissions per kilowatt hour of electricity generated respectively, compared with 1,140 grams of emissions for the generation of one kilowatt hour by burning lignite, underline once again the very low environmental impact of power generation via onshore wind turbines.
  • We achieved our target of a lost time injury frequency rate (LTIF) of less than 1.5 (per 1 million hours worked) by 2025, with an LTIF of 1.2 in 2023, thanks to robust processes and high employee diligence.
  • We conducted a global campaign and several local health and safety initiatives, focusing on the mental health and well-being of our employees.
  • Following our commitment to Science-based Targets (SBTs) in 2021, the Nordex Group developed its short-term and net-zero targets based on the 2022 Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) and submitted them to the SBTi for validation at the end of 2023.
  • During 2023, we revised our supply chain risk management in order to implement the requirements of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). Full compliance with the LkSG, including due diligence and consideration of all our legal positions, has been achieved since the beginning of 2024.

The challenges and therefore our commitment did not stop there: In 2023, we worked on further initiatives for a more sustainable future. Read the full detailed report here: Sustainability Report 2023
