Meet the Team Nordex: Sophia Palm, Project Manager

We are happy to start a new series of articles introducing our passionate professionals working in the Nordics. The first one to introduce herself is Sophia Palm who works as a Project Manager in the Finnish Nordex Project Management team.

As a Project Manager Sophia directs the construction process of the new wind farms in the Nordic area, with her responsibilities starting at the time of installation agreement signatures and ending when the Service department takes over and starts maintaining the turbines. In general, Project Managers are the ones to see the big picture as they coordinate the wide network of stakeholders: site managers, customer, HSE Manager, electrical engineers, subcontractors and the local Service team to name a few examples.

Sophia applied to work as a Project Assistant at Nordex Group Finland back in 2016 to have her first real office job. As her background was in social sciences, development studies and the start-up world, she had zero experience in the wind industry. However, green energy was a fit to her personal values and after she was given the opportunity to visit a wind farm construction site for the first time, Sophia found a place where she belonged. From the very beginning the job in the wind industry felt right, even like home, which gave Sophia the motivation to continuously learn and develop in her position. And as she says, “there is no stopping to an employee at Nordex who does a good job”.

After two and a half years Sophia was promoted to Junior Project Manager and got her first own project. ”Growing into the role would not have been possible without the help from my Nordex team”, Sophia says and thanks her colleagues for their patience, positive attitude and eagerness to share knowledge. “This company is almost like its own university with teachers everywhere”, she continues. Communication and team work skills are indeed some of the most important abilities Project Managers need in their work on a daily basis. The position also requires problem solving skills, flexibility and the readiness the stand up to unpredictable challenges.

Above all Sophia is grateful for a job that offers her endless opportunities to overcome these challenges. One of the achievements she mentions is finishing the Hirvineva project on time despite the difficulties brought by the global pandemic this year. Now Sophia, recently promoted to Project Manager, is excited about temporarily moving to back to her birth country Sweden to work with her next project Ljungbyholm.
