Meet the Team Nordex – Enrico Fischer, Field & Technology Support Manager

Enrico Fischer works at Nordex as a Field & Technology Support Manager for the Nordics, United Kingdom and Ireland. In his role Enrico and his teams are responsible for delivering technical support to the field organization in order to increase turbine availability. Enrico is based in Uppsala office in Sweden but originally comes from Germany. Having worked for almost 19 years at the company, he is a true veteran within the Nordex Group.

Enrico has been interested in renewable energy from very early on. According to him, the interest has to do with him wanting to be a part of creating a sustainable future for the coming generations. Nordex then became the obvious employer for Enrico when he at the age of 16 was looking for an apprenticeship and Nordex had a production facility in Rostock, Germany, where he lived. Even as an apprentice Enrico had the opportunity to work in all different parts of the production, from nacelle to switch cabinet production. He was also given a chance to work in the field with the Service department to perform maintenance and troubleshooting of different turbine models.

In 2007, Enrico came across an opportunity for a Site Manager role in Sweden while reading NordexPress, an internal employee newsletter back in the time. He noticed an article about Nordex building their first windfarm in Sweden and got intrigued. Just a month before, Enrico had actually talked with his partner about moving north to Sweden someday since she owned a cottage there. Enrico did not know first how to apply for the position and had to make a few calls before getting in touch with the hiring manager. “Being at the right place at the right time is very important for your career. But you also need to work for it.” Enrico says. After getting the job, he spent his first five months at Nordex doing training in Norway before moving to Sweden.

One of Enrico’s most memorable moments at Nordex was when he at the age of 27 received news that he was selected as the new Field Operation Manager (now called Local Operations Manager) for Norway and Estonia. “I sat at Östersund airport waiting to go on a plane home when I got the call”, Enrico says. “I was so excited that I gave all my colleagues a hug, which is a big thing since I am not usually a hugger”, he adds. Enrico explains that he is very proud of the fact that he made it all the way from the production floor in Rostock to Uppsala, currently being a manager for 24 employees. He mentions that he is equally thankful to Nordex for receiving this opportunity.

Today, after 19 years at Nordex, Enrico says that the main reason he has stayed for so long is because of the possibility to evolve within the company. “At Nordex I have the possibility to develop and I have been given plenty of opportunities to prove my skills and competence in multiple positions throughout the organisation”. He is also happy that combining working with family life is easy due to the flexibility. Even though he is indeed proud of his achievements in the company, his biggest achievements in life are his “two beautiful kids Emelie (6) and Rasmus (2)”.

And on the question what’s happening next in his Nordex career, he says with a smile “To quote one of the most influential persons of our time, Elon Musk; “I could either watch it happen or be a part of it”.
