Sweden: First turbines powered to the grid at Nysäter

The first 24 of the Nordex Group’s Delta4000 N149/4.0-4.5 turbines have now been erected at the Nysäter wind farm and the first kWh of electricity are being exported to the power grid. This is an important milestone in the installation of the planned 114 turbines at the site, located near Viksjö in Västernorrland County, Sweden.

Nysäter is built in two phases: phase one consists of 73 turbines and phase two of 41 turbines. When Nysäter is completed, the wind farm will be one of Sweden’s biggest wind farms with a 474 MW installed capacity and ability to generate electricity to power 300 000 households.

The turbines at Nysäter are of the models N149/4.0-4.5 and N131/3900 of the Delta4000 and Delta generation. The N149/4.0-4.5 turbines at Nysäter are built with 125 and 145 m towers with a total height of 200 m and 220 m. The N131/3900 turbines at Nysäter are built with 120 and 134 m towers with a total height of 185 m and 200 m.

The 75 m single-piece blades and components for the turbine towers and nacelles arrived to the port of Härnösand in June. The blades have been transported the 45 km route to the site with Superwing trailers. In the fall the workforce at Nysäter has been completing the ground works and the casting of foundations at the first phase and are now fully ramped up with the installation of the turbines. Currently the workforce of almost 600 continues working on site across the both phases of the project and the installation of turbines will continue through the winter period.

Tim Carpenter, Vice President of the Nordic Region, “As we complete our second year of construction, we are extremely proud to have reached this important milestone of first power export to the Nysäter project. Progress across the two sites is strong, despite the challenging weather conditions, with turbine installation in full swing at Hästkullen and ground works progressing well at Björnlandshöjden ahead of the turbine deliveries planned in the spring. I would like to thank the full project construction team, including all our supplier subcontractors for their tremendous efforts in getting us this far and we look forward to celebrating the finalisation of completion of this prestigious project over the coming year.”
