NORDEX ELECTROLYZERS S.L. DEVELOPS THE FIRST PROTOTYPE OF A 500-KW PRESSURIZED ALKALINE ELECTROLYZER

June 17, 2024

On June 17, 2024, Nordex Electrolyzers inaugurated a test bench in its plant at Lumbier and presented its first in-house-developed prototype of a 500-kW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer to the public. It is the biggest electrolyzer designed, manufactured, and assembled entirely in Spain. The 500-kW prototype can produce more than 10 kg/h of hydrogen with an energy consumption of less than 50 kWh/kg. It is specially designed to work with power changes and frequent stops. This, together with the right selection of materials, will allow Nordex Electrolyzers to differentiate its product from other manufacturers. Hydrogen is set to become one of the most important energy vectors of the future. Not only will it allow for better management and integration of renewable energies, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions, but will also allow for the decarbonization of many industrial sectors that currently require large amounts of hydrogen for their processes.

NORDEX ELECTROLYZERS S.L. AT EUROPEAN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY WEEK

June 13, 2024

Irene Huarte, Director of Business Development and Sales at Nordex Electrolyzers, took part in the “Recovery and Resilience Plans boosting competitiveness and accelerating the clean energy transition” session during the European Sustainable Energy Week. During her presentation, Huarte highlighted Nordex Electrolyzers’ success as a beneficiary of Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funds. The company received funding for the development of a proprietary pressurized alkaline electrolyzer technology. This project, classified as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), aims to advance green hydrogen production, boost European industrial base and contribute to Europe’s clean energy transition. “Nordex Electrolyzers is proud to be part of the RRF program,” said Huarte. “Our innovative electrolyzer technology will play a crucial role in decarbonizing industries and achieving climate goals.” The event, organized by the European Commission and held in Brussels, serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and policy discussions.

NORDEX ELECTROLYZERS S.L. TAKES PART IN IPCEI H2 MADE IN SPAIN ROUND TABLE

February 29, 2024

At the event, which was held in Madrid in February, we explored the advancements and obstacles of renewable hydrogen technology, specifically the Hy2Tech and Hy2Use waves of the IPCEI H2. The Hy2Tech round table, moderated by María Eguaras from Zabala Innovation, included notable industry representatives. Among these was Nordex Electrolyzers Chief Technical Officer Javier Fernández de Manzanos. He talked about his company’s project within the IPCEI H2 framework, which aims to design and produce a flexible alkaline electrolyzer. The goal is to adapt to wind farms and photovoltaic plants, validate prototypes, and achieve a more competitive levelized cost of hydrogen by 2028 through series production of the technology.

NORDEX ELECTROLYZERS S.L. AT EUROPEAN GREEN HYDROGEN WEEK

November 22, 2023

As part of its joint venture with SODENA, in November 2023, Nordex attended European Green Hydrogen Week – the main event related to this technology on the continent. During the event, Nordex Electrolyzers presented an electrolyzer manufacturing project. Representatives were delighted to explain that, with funding of 30 million euros will allow the initiative to create 150 direct jobs at its Barasoain plant, where electrolyzers with power ratings of 5 to 10 MW are to be produced.
The initiative falls within the framework of Navarre’s green hydrogen agenda, which aims to install 150 MW of green hydrogen production in the region by 2030.

THE GOVERNOR OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE SIGNS MOU WITH NORDEX

October 05, 2023

At the start of October 2023, Fátima Bezerra, the governor of Rio Grande do Norte, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nordex. The MoU aims to develop an industrial chain for low-carbon hydrogen, as well as wind and solar energy in the region, and it is a significant milestone in the development of a green hydrogen industry in the state. Such an industry has the potential to create jobs, boost the economy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The delegation toured the Nordex electrolyzer plant and development laboratory, where they learned that the company is developing its own technology to produce green hydrogen, which will reduce installation and production chain costs.
