H2ERMETIC

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
“H2ERMETIC”
The project
DEVELOPMENT OF ASSEMBLY STRATEGIES FOR AN ALKALINE ELECTROLYZER
Aim of the H2ERMETIC project is to study and develop assembly and sealing strategies for alkaline water electrolyzers. The specific components developed in the project are the end plates and bolts, which are responsible for compressing the entire stack, guaranteeing the mechanical stability of the assembly and adequate contact between the electrolytic chamber, which defines the space between the bipolar plate and the diaphragm and provides rigidity and electrical insulation, as well as the gaskets, which guarantee the sealing of the stack. The design and manufacture of these elements will be optimized to work in fluctuating power supply conditions, also looking to reduce the weight of the electrolyzer, together with a reduction in the cost of materials and associated manufacturing processes. The project partners MEKATECH, Laneko and Nordex Electrolyzers S.L. received 510.000 € funding by the Strategic R&D projects of the Government of Navarra. The project runs from 2022 to 2023.
