A project is launched to boost the decarbonization of industrial processes through electrolyzers that generate green hydrogen
The project ‘Development of Advanced Technologies and asset management tools for the Efficient Production of Green Hydrogen for use in the decarbonization of Industrial Processes’, known by its acronym H2OP, has been launched with the aim of promoting the efficient production of green hydrogen and its application in the decarbonization of industrial processes. This ambitious project seeks to position Navarre’s industry at the forefront of the energy transition.
Nordex Electrolyzers, the project leader, in consortium with Viscofan, Ain y URAPHEX will carry out this initiative consisting of the installation of the largest electrolyzer designed, manufactured and assembled entirely in Spain by Nordex, at Viscofan’s facilities in Cáseda (Navarra). Together, these partners will pool their knowledge and resources to develop advanced technologies and asset management tools to optimize green hydrogen production. The 500 kW prototype can produce more than 10 kg/h of hydrogen that will be used to replace natural gas in the steam generation at the already adapted facilities of Viscofan in Cáseda, contributing to the decarbonization process of this plant.
The H2OP project is part of the 2024-2027 call for strategic R&D project grants from the Government of Navarre’s Department of Industry and Ecological and Digital Business Transition. The project is part of Challenge 2 AERO VIII of this call focused on the green energy industry, and seeks to promote innovation and technological development in this crucial sector for sustainability.
The H2OP project has received a total grant of € 838,428.98, funded by the Government of Navarre and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This funding is essential to carry out the research and development necessary to achieve the proposed objectives.
About Nordex Electrolyzers
Nordex Electrolyzers designs, manufactures, and installs pressurized alkaline electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen. With headquarters in Navarra and Puertollano in Spain, and a highly specialized team, it has developed prototypes of 50kW and 500kW. Currently, it is focused on the development of a 2.5MW prototype.
Nordex Electrolyzers seeks to contribute to a sustainable future through the transition to green energy. Nordex Electrolyzers is a joint venture founded in 2022 between Sodena, a public company of the Government of Navarre, and Nordex Group.
About Viscofan
Viscofan has been providing access to food to millions of households around the world for almost 50 years through its casings, with its own technological development and an outstanding global presence that allows it to distribute its products to more than 100 countries on all continents.
In addition to casings, a sector in which it is a world leader, Viscofan also develops solutions and products in other areas related to access to nutrition and wellness: tubular plastics, packaging and third parties, new edible casings, functional solutions and nutra-medical-pharma products, in addition to the diversification activity, where Viscofan wants to leverage its know-how as a catalyst for innovations to expand into new markets with attractive growth trends in the area of food, wellness and health.
About AIN
AIN is a private Technological Center which is structured into 3 areas of expertise: “Surface Technology and Advanced Materials”, “Digital Technologies”, and “Energy.” Additionally, AIN has other areas of activity such as consulting, training and recruitment, as well as the area of engineering, environment and sustainability.
AIN’s Energy-related activities focus on supporting industry in the search for optimal energy solutions through efficiency, electricity generation and self-consumption, and the decarbonization of industrial processes. Recently, the focus has been on adapting to new energy sources such as hydrogen, biomass, and electrification of processes, while measuring environmental impact reduction through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and carbon footprint (CF) calculation.
About URAPHEX
URAPHEX has patented technology that saves up to 90% of water in refrigeration systems, as well as in the washing of fruit and vegetables. The Navarrese company specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of equipment that regenerates and disinfects water without using chemical products.
This equipment is capable of treating flows of between 1 m³/h and 500 m³/h. To date, they have managed to save their clients more than 300,000 m³ of water and avoid the use of 290 Tm of chemical products, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability.
URAPHEX is currently developing new applications in sectors such as the automotive, steel and textile industries, among others.
