Shipments of wind turbine components have begun arriving at the Port of Ngqura, marking the arrival of the first of over 170 wind turbine blades, each an impressive 80 meters in length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These blades are among the key components of the 57 Nordex turbines, which will be transported to a site near the Impofu Dam in the Eastern Cape Province, bolstering the region\u2019s rapidly expanding wind power capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The commencement of turbine component shipments to the Port of Ngqura is a key milestone in the construction phase. This project will harness the Eastern Cape’s wind resources, which are among the best not only in the country, but in the world,” said David Moncasi Hortet, Head of Sales: Africa at Nordex Energy South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eastern Cape, particularly the Jeffreys Bay area, is already recognised as one of South Africa\u2019s premier wind power zones, home to 13 wind farms that leverage the area\u2019s exceptional wind resources. The arrival of these turbine blades underscores the region\u2019s growing prominence on the nation\u2019s renewable energy map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier this year, Nordex confirmed its role in supplying the 57 turbines for a R9-billion cluster of three wind farms in the region. With a combined capacity of 336MW, this project will become South Africa\u2019s largest purely private renewable energy facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To support this development, approximately 1,400 keystones\u2014essential components of the 57 towers\u2014will be produced locally at a newly established manufacturing facility in Humansdorp, located just 1.5 hours from the Port of Ngqura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
