<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nWho are\nyou and what do you do at Nordex Group?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My name\nis Alper Kayhan. I am the Lead Sales Engineer in the Nordics. Generally, I am\nproviding technical sales support to our sales team, together with my sales\nengineering colleagues in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More\nspecifically, technical sales support means technical negotiations with our\nclients, consultants and authorities from the very early sales phase to the\nexecution phase of the wind farm projects, as well as preparation of technical\nparts of contracts, tender replies, presentations and related technical\nstudies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What is\nthe Advanced Anti-icing System?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n AAIS\n(Advanced Anti-Icing System) simply uses electrical resistance heating, more\nspecifically AI-D Conductor Heating Elements, underneath the blade surface to\nmelt the ice formation on blades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If icing\nconditions appear and if reasonable amount of ice covers the blade surface,\nthen two options could be applied: \n <\/p>\n\n\n\n As\nresults of these two options above:<\/p>\n\n\n\n How\ndoes the AAIS work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n AAIS is\nan autonomous system. It first detects the icing via meteorological ice sensor\nthat is located on the top of nacelle of the turbine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Second,\nif the icing is at a reasonable level, the sensor activates the AAIS heating\nelements placed underneath the blade surface. Then, AAIS removes the ice\nformation and enables continuous operation. When icing conditions are over,\nAAIS stops working automatically until new icing conditions appear. AAIS is\nconnected to Nordex SCADA system so it is possible to monitor its activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When do\nwe use the AAIS? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We use\nAAIS especially for wind farms around the Arctic Circle in Sweden, Finland and\nNorway. In three steps, our clients can come to a decision of using AAIS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n First\nstep is the investigation phase. Investors could check the icing conditions of\ntheir wind farm and potential icing loss (production loss due to icing) in a\nwind farm via a third party company. Investors can also check AAIS technology\nwith Nordex and icing warranty conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Second\nstep can be the assessment phase. Our clients can anticipate the benefit of\nhaving AAIS so they can understand how much icing loss AAIS can recover\nthroughout the operational lifetime of the wind farm. In short, they can\nevaluate the effect of having AAIS in their financial model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Third step is the decision phase. If financial model is reflecting a positive figure, then AAIS could be added to the project scope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What\ndiffers between our Advanced Anti-icing System and other turbine suppliers\nsystems? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Nordex\nhas more than 10 years of experience in Anti-icing technologies. In these 10\nyears, we had the chance to improve the efficiency of our Anti-icing system as\nwell as our expertise level. Following the introduction of our Delta4000\nturbine platform, we also had a chance to introduce our Nordex AAIS to several\nmarkets and install AAIS since 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Today,\nNordex AAIS is more efficient than before; because it combines Anti-icing and\nlightning protection functions (heating power is effective on lightning\nprotection system and heating elements). As a result, system complexity and\nmanufacturing process is simplified, heated surface area is increased, AAIS\nenergy consumption is lowered, the weight of AAIS is reduced and it prompts\nless loads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are\nseveral anti-icing and de-icing technologies used in the industry. For example,\nblade heating system with hot air circulation in blade or AI-C Carbon Heating\nelement usage on blade surface are just some of them. Each technology has its\nown pros and cons. I kindly advise investors to check the performance of each\ntechnology and icing warranty conditions with turbine manufacturers to find the\nbest fit for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally,\nwe are proud of Nordex AAIS, which is our proven and certified technology and\nwe fully trust in its performance in the wind industry.
