Nordex awarded further major contract in Italy
Contract signed for a 35 MW wind farm worth EUR 37 million / New Managing Director of Nordex Italia appointed
Hamburg, September 18, 2007. Nordex AG has received its third major order from Italy this year. The customer is wind farm developer Co-Ver Energia, a subsidiary of Co-Ver Energy Holding in Verbania, Italy. In this wind turbine supply project worth around EUR 37 million, Nordex will be installing a total of 14 N90/2500 turbines in the North West of Sickly.
Located at an altitude of around 1,000 meters, the site will generate a total annual yield of some 70 gigawatt/hours, sufficient to provide 18,000 households with electricity and simultaneously avoiding green house gas emissions of approximately 70,000 tons. Work at the site is scheduled to commence in spring 2007 with wind turbines arriving at the site in September 2008. There is also the possibility of the wind farm being extended as the contract provides for an option for a further six turbines from the same series.
“This contract demonstrates once more how important Italy has become for our business. In 2007 alone, we have signed contracts for 60 turbines. This testifies to the suitability of our systems for the Italian market. At the same time, there are many professional customers in Italy, such as Co-Ver Energia, with whom we can extend our business activities,” says Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales and Marketing at Nordex AG.
To execute the high order backlog, Nordex will strengthen the senior management of its subsidiary Nordex Italia. Effective October 1, 2007, Francesco Paolo Liuzzi has appointed as Managing Director of the Nordex Branch in Rome. Prior to this position Liuzzi was responsible for the operations of a leading competitor in Italy.
As one of the technological leaders in multi-megawatt wind power systems, Nordex is benefiting from the trend in favor of large-scale turbines. The range comprises one of the world’s largest series-produced wind power systems (N80/N90 2,500 kW). To date, more than 400 turbines of this type have been installed around the world. This experience with multi-megawatt turbines gives Nordex a decisive lead over most of its competitors. Nordex has installed a total of over 3,000 turbines with an aggregate capacity of around 3,400 MW all around the world. With exports accounting for around 80 percent of its business, Nordex AG plays a key role in international high-growth regions. The Company has offices and subsidiaries in 18 countries around the world.
